I speak to high school students on composing personal statements and essays for the college admission process and competive scholarship opportnities. I am a founding board member of the National Association of Fellowships Advisors and I have advised students in preparing essays accross the nation.

Research shows that such constructs as self-efficacy, academic self-concept, stereotype threat, attibutional style, and achievement goal orientation can affect our performance and our desire to persist in executing a task. What can we do to stay on track?

I share my own story of overcoming the challenges of being a first-generation college student with little interest or motivation to succeed academically to serving as an administrator of honors programs at five post-secondary institutions and pursuing my goal of attaining a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology.
